MK111 TMO cx500

Sorry peoples, its been awhile.

TMO MK11 is due for its final ride on 3rd October at Eastern Creek we'll add a tacho and refit the temp gauge - just to see what revs its pulling down the straight.

\Our plan is to take the bike off the track after that ride day - then bunker down and build the MK111 version of my fav. P5 race bike.

CX500 takes 2nd at EC

Just a quick note, didn't manage to dip into the 1.55s at EC mainly due to the track temp being so low - traction was not great. However took out 2nd place on the day in Forgotten Era 500 and better still 1st New Era Formula 2 on the SFA Racing supplied VFR400.

Sadley my newest pride an d joy had a lay down on the second turn on the first lap of practice. The new front tyre all wrong for the bike. Rider ok just peeved off and surprised by the total lack of adhesion from the SAVA front tyre. Bike sustainded normal lowside damage - peg, brake levers and fairing.

Many thanks to 'The Creator' and the trio from the CX500 club that came out to show their support. Oh and my favourite 'pit bitch'- couldn't do it without you.

cheers

Classic Dirt Track KO Honda XL250 on its way

My pre '75 dirt track project is coming along nicely - many thanks to 4strokepete.
If the planets align and the methanol doesn't run out, the bike will have its first run at Nepean DT 9th July.

CX500 update

As i noted in the last post we have fitted a new Avon AM22 110/90X18 to the front of the CX.

We also dropped the forks through the triple clamps by 12mm and raised the rear by 10mm, thus raising the whole bike. The additon of another seat pad gives me a little more leg room and gets the weight up higher. I'm looking forward to see how the changes affect the handling of the bike.

Personal goal for this weekend ok Sunday, is to drop straight into the 1.58s and stay there for the day. Nah bugger it - I wanna nail a 1.55. Oh and to stop dragging my toes on the deck!

Look forward to seeing you all at 'The Creek' 27th June.

I've merged/folded my cx500racer blog into capt. ob.

New Front
Just (re)fitted an Avon AM22 110/80X18 to front of TMO. We tried this tyre a year or so back but certain people weren't happy with it however that person doesn't push the bike as hard as I do so itshould be interesting to see how we go. My main concern with the last tyre we had was the instabilty into turn one at EC.

PCRA RND 4 2009 ORAN PARK
Its only due to Thumper500 putting more shots up on his photobucket site that i'm writing this as it seens so long ago....

Round 4 2009 was help at Oran Park GP circuit Sunday 5th July, and as always at OP the racing was great. Such a loss McMansions on our beloved race track.....

Leg one 350 - unlimited FE/PC

Had a great start, and was chasing Bruce Ireland on his TZ750 I really can't remember which lap it was but natsoft says the field completed 2 laps which probably means Bruce crashed on the second lap - I stand to be corrected..

Before his off Bruce out accelerated me down the staright and as I hit the dip and was readying myself to smack TMO (The Mighty One) down a gear in prep for turn one I saw Bruce run wide and onto the dirt after said turn one, and from my POV it was dirt, dust, arms and legs and bike. The bike and Bruce had come to rest as I went past.

Bruce broke his collarbone and sadley has been missing in action since then, however I have spotted him out and about on his ZXR1200 courier bike.

BSFoS contd.
The lead up to BSFoS was busier than we expected.

I hadn't raced the bike there since 08 and a number of mods had been done on it since then. Not to bore you with te dettails but a quick action throttle had been added, a change of front tyre (again) and a change of front brake m/c size had been done.

The bike was ready to go for an ARDC pribate practice day prior to the 'Sheene- well we though it was only to discover witth a week to go that the front brake M'C was jammed.

Not a good way to be prepping for the most important Historic meeting in NSW.

As the CX was not ready I took Scott's VFR400 out to the track (and my KR125) and spent the day trying to get under 2.00 min.

My thugght was if I could go round the creek at less than 2.00 at a prac day then it might be worth racing the bike. I did and I did, but enough said this is 'The Mighty One's blog.

cheers

BSFoS
Hmm, CX500 giving factoy Suzuki TR500 a hurry up -

Dennis Brown worked hard to keep his Suzuki TR500 in front of TMO, rest assured he'll have to work much harder next time he turns up to race!

The last hit out the bike and I had was at Easten Creek over the Easter weekend. The end result was a third place for the meeting in Forgotton Era (P5) 500, but that doesn't really tell the story. I'll get to it soon.

cheers

2011 New Historic Classes

For those that care about such things there is movement 9finally) to get the present NE1 PCRA class ratified as a bona fide Historic class next year, its gunna look somewhat like this:

2 weeks ago the MA Historic commission got together and set up a draft rules set for P6 which is based on the GCR’s of 1989. It is still planned to have NE up and running in 2011.

The next step is that MA will distribute the draft rules to the states for comment. As one of three on the MNSW Historic Road Race Sports Committee I assume that I will be asked to comment. Therefore I would like to ask all members of the PCRA, but especially members who have or are currently running NE bikes for input.

At the Wednesday PCRA club meeting the main draft rules were announced as:

Classes up to:

125cc GP
250cc Proddy
250cc GP
750cc Superbike (meaning 750cc for 4 cyl 4 stroke and 1000cc for 2 cyl 4 stroke)
1100cc

Upside down forks out
End 90 cut off
No v-twin 250 Yamaha’s

At the MNSW Annual Meeting the following day the rules differed as such:

750cc (Larger twins run in 1100cc)
Original upside down fork allowed if originally fitted to the bike.

And the best part is we can now get down to the business of preparing bikes for the new Historic class.

cheers

NEPEAN DIRT TRACK PRACTICE DAY - NO GO!

My planned dirt track practice day didn't happen, awoke saturday morn to find the smallest deckhand on the barge was ill, so the bike stayed on the trailer and I stayed home.

At least it gave me chance to think about what bikes to run with this year and having recently purchased an XL250 K0 with the intention of racing in 'pre75 something should go.

My good mate Pete 'Two Snakes' up in QLD was kind enough to pick up the bike from some strange Brissie suburb and is, as we speak, giving the bike a 'once over' for me.

If all goes to plan, the bike will be in Sydney June 26th as Two Snakes will be racing with us at Eastern Creek at the PCRA meeting on the 27th.

NEPEAN DIRT TRACK PRACTICE DAY

Hi all, yep that's my 1982 XR200RC that I'm taking to Nepean Dirt Track at Agnes Banks - north west Sydney, tommorrow (saturday) for one of Penrith/St George Practice Days (and Lord don't I need it!). I did one a little earlier in the year and realised that all my years of street riding had 'stiffened' me up, I found it really really hard to let the bike move around as it should in the dirt.

Will take my camera and try and get you a few shots of the bikes and people out there, especially the nonmodern stuff.

Jon's pics from BSFoS 2010

Here are few pics that my new M8 Jon Wallis took on the Saturday at Eastern Creek International Raceway. Mind you he was pretty busy assisting me with tyre warmers on/off bikes on stands bikes orff stands etc etc.

Thanks mate.

PCRA BSFoS

Eastern Creek raceway, on a CX500, that's not on steriods, hmm that's gotta be a little interesting. Well it was. The bike has been to, gosh, many BSFoS and Bob Blythe Mem. meetings at Eastern Creek, with only three riders, and every time its been there its provided its rider with a trophy. 2010 was no exception. As they say at the ABC I 'picked up' actually, no, I was 'handed' a third place trophy for my efforts on the Easter weekend.

Short story long it took me three days to get the 'Mighty One' round the track at under 2min. best lap was 1.58 however, I need 1.51 to put that Ducati '500' in its place.

KR125 - It's not a static display!

Hello all,
before i launch into our adventures at the recent BSFoS I'll post up a pic of my1978 KH125 based Forgotten Era (P5) race bike. It cut some great laps on Friday practice but was sidelined by an electrical gremlin.

Thanks for the pic Rick. For more of Ricks pics clidk: http://s160.photobucket.com/albums/t177/Thumper500/BARRY%20SHEENE%20FS%202010/?evt=user_upload_approve&sort=ascending

PCRA ONE HOUR 2009 FIN.

Thought I'd close up my thoughts on last year's one hour by saying many many thanks to Neil Carlyle for entrusting me with his Honda RS125. It certainly was an experience. I've raced a few different bikes round Wackyfield, Suzuki GS125 Superlite, Honda CX500 (aka The Mighty One) a bad VFR400 (one hour 08 or was it 07?) Honda CB125 (aka The Mini Mighty One one hour 08), GSX250, Honda Bros/XL500 thingy.

At this stage the best bike and the fastest I've been round the track is on Neil's RS at 1.14 which I'm pretty happy with, especially considering the limited time I had on the bike

Maybe we'll do it again this year, eh Neil?

Cheers

lyall2

PS the pic is of me on 'The Mighty One' and Neil on his RS125 at a 'mixed' race a year or so earlier.
